He received a Research Initiation Award from USA NSF (1993), a Ralph R. He has supervised 29 PhD, 11 MS and 7 MPhil degree students. His research projects were supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Boeing, Chrysler, ALCOA, Maryland Industrial Partnerships in USA, by RGC and ITC and local industries in Hong Kong, by NSFC and MOST in China, and by Singapore A*STAR, MOE, and Defense Ministry. Wang’s research focuses primarily on robotics, autonomous systems, manufacturing automation, topology optimization, and additive manufacturing, with over 300 technical publications in these areas. Professor Wang has held other positions worldwide, including visiting scholar at Stanford University, A*STAR OAP Fellow in Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Guest Professor in Xian Jiaotong University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Haerbin Institute of Technology, Chang Jiang Chair Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Eminent Visiting Professor at Universiti Brunei Darussalam, and Distinguished Visiting Scholar of University of Technology Sydney. Before joining HKUST in 2015, he served on the engineering faculty at University of Maryland, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and National University of Singapore. degree from Pennsylvania State University, and his Ph.D. He has previously served as the Programme Director (2015-2018 & 2020-2023) for the MSc Business Analytics programme ( 2023 QS Ranking: 2nd in the UK & 16th in the world).A native of China, Professor Wang obtained his undergraduate degree from Xian Jiaotong University in China, his M.S. He has successfully coordinated and taught across a broad portfolio of course units at all different undergraduate and postgraduate levels at AMBS. He is a member of EPSRC Peer Review College, International Society of Multiple Criteria Decision Making and EURO Multiple Criteria Decision Aiding (MCDA) Working Groups. He currently serves as Associate Editor of the Decision Analytics Journal, Academic Editor of the Complexity Journal and Editorial Board Member of SN Business & Economics, Humanities & Social Sciences Communications, Web Intelligence and International Journal of Productivity and Performance Management. He has been awarded as PI, Joint PI or Co-I a number of research or industry projects by Innovate UK, Turing-UoM Fund, EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council), ERDF (European Regional Development Fund), NSFC (National Natural Science Foundation of China), etc., with a total budget of over 1 million pounds. He has published more than 70 research articles in leading journals, such as European Journal of Operational Research, Information Sciences, Computers & Operation Research, Environment and Planning A: Economy and Space, Knowledge-Based Systems and IEEE Transactions on Systems, 5 books or book chapters and 20+ publications in conference proceedings. His research focuses primarily on Decision Sciences, Data Analytics and AI, including their applications in business analytics, supply chain risk analysis, healthcare decision support, etc. ![]() He received the PhD degree in Control and System Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Prior to joining AMBS, he worked briefly as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Computer Science, Hong Kong Baptist University. Yu-Wang Chen is Professor in Decision Sciences and Business Analytics at Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS), The University of Manchester, and Turing Fellow at The Alan Turing Institute. ![]()
